Growth

GDP growth volatility has risen — the boom and bust are both larger

Headline GDP growth 2014-2026 has ranged from -7.3% (2020) to +8.7% (2021). The 2017-2019 demonetisation-and-GST window also showed a clear deceleration (8.2→6.1→4.2). The level is high on average but the year-to-year variance exceeds the pre-2014 period.

Average GDP growth is a useful number — but for India today, the spread around the average is the story.
