Official statistics

The Statistical Suppression Index scores documented events in six streams of official statistics. The events, their dates and the severity given to each are listed below the chart.

Every chart runs from 2004 at the left edge to 2026 at the right and changes side between 2013 and 2014. Dashed lines are the two period averages. A gap is a year with no published figure.

Source and method

Constructed: SSI = sum(weight × graded severity) on a 0-10 scale, with persistence; 6 documented suppression streams incl. COVID-mortality undercount and the NSO merger. See data/compute_indices.py

The six streams and their yearly severity

Each stream is scored 0 to 1 in each year and multiplied by its weight; the weights sum to 10. An empty cell is a year in which nothing in that stream was scored. The events behind each score and their dates are documented in data/compute_indices.py and in the methodology.
