Central agencies arrested senior opposition leaders in 2023 and 2024
The Central Bureau of Investigation arrested Manish Sisodia, then Delhi's deputy chief minister, in February 2023. The Enforcement Directorate arrested Hemant Soren in January 2024, on the day he resigned as chief minister of Jharkhand, and Arvind Kejriwal in March 2024 while he was chief minister of Delhi. No government agency publishes a count of arrests of opposition politicians, and this project holds no case-by-case register, so it states no annual number.
What follows. The arrest of a sitting chief minister in 2024 had no precedent. A yearly count would need a published case list, which does not yet exist.
