Data & Code

Dataset

Master Dataset

The year-by-year dataset for 2004-2026: 18 series, including the three indices, with 265 values. The master dataset in the package adds every index input, one row per year. A year with no published figure is left empty. The source of every series is named in data.json.

CSV and Excel 475 published values
Code

Replication Code

replication_code.py and replication_code.R recompute the cross-era comparison from the dataset. data/compute_indices.py recomputes the three indices from their inputs.

R/Python Documented
Indices

SSI, FCI, DQI Data

The yearly values of the three indices are in the dataset. Their inputs, sources and severity coding are in data/compute_indices.py and the master dataset, both in the package.

3 indices Annual data
# Sample code: regenerate the three indices from data/compute_indices.py import sys sys.path.insert(0, 'data') import compute_indices as ci idx = ci.build() # years, ssi, fci, dqi for 2004-2026 for y, s, f, d in zip(idx['years'], idx['ssi'], idx['fci'], idx['dqi']): print(y, s, f, d) # SSI = sum of weight x graded severity over six documented streams (0-10) # FCI = mean of four published fiscal ratios (min-max normalised) and two # coded components, the GST and the 2020 borrowing conditions (0-1, relative) # DQI = (V-Dem LDI x FH/100 x (180 - RSF rank)/180 x V-Dem civil society)^(1/4)

Files

In the downloads/ folder: paper.pdf and paper.html (the working paper), dataset.csv and dataset.xlsx (the year-by-year dataset), someperspective-research-package.zip (the documents, data.json, the dataset, the master dataset with every index input, the index code and the replication scripts), and the six guides listed on this page (executive summary, methodology, technical appendix, policy brief, citizen guide and media kit).

In the repository: data.json (every series on the site, with its source note), data/SP_masterdataset.csv (the dataset, written by tools/build_master.py), data/compute_indices.py (the SSI, FCI and DQI with their inputs and sources), data/METHODOLOGY.md, data_dictionary.md, replication_code.py, replication_code.R and paper/paper.md (the source of the paper).
